The CMI Group Other debt complaint on 02/07/2019

A Door to Door salesman came to our house via a new cable company we had heard of in our City. They made an offer for our Cable and Internet Service that would save us over {$100.00} per month. We went ahead with this plan and called our former cable company, XXXX XXXX, and they said to return all of their equipment to cancel our service with them. We did so on XX/XX/XXXX and we asked them if we owed anything on our account and were told they did not know but they would contact us if we did. We never received an e-mail nor any billing in the mail from them so we assumed we did not owe anything and forgot about it all. Then in the last week of XXXX we received a letter not from XXXX XXXX but from a Debt Collection company, Credit Management LP, stating we owed {$160.00} to XXXX XXXX. From this, we knew this would affect my husband 's credit report and we had never received a previous billing via mail or our e-mail prior to receiving the letter from the Debt Collection Company. Our son immediately got on the phone and called XXXX XXXX and asked them why this amount owed was sent to a collection agency when a ) we had never received a bill prior to this notice and b ) that the account was sent to a third party collection company in less than 2 months of our cancelling our service. The representative on the phone stated they had mailed two billings but we never received them and had been actively looking for any notification about an amount still owed. If we had known that this amount was due soon after we closed our account, we would have reviewed it and taken care of it but now it has been sent to collections and we both want to ensure this is not reflective on my husband 's credit report prior to our paying it and want to know why we were never notified of this debt before it was sent to a Third Party Collection. My son has suggested that this is in retaliation for our canceling our service and I am unsure if this is the reason but what I do know is if we had owed anything, then we should have received a billing in the mail and/or been contacted by XXXX XXXX before it was sent to collection and we also want to inquire as to why it was sent to collection in less than 60 days of our closing our account.

Debt Pro Tips

Will paying a collection agency improve my credit score?

If a consumer has multiple accounts in collection, the credit score improvement from paying off a single account may not be much. If you can get all of your collection accounts to report paid with a zero outstanding balance, then you can begin rebuilding your credit.

What's in my credit report?

Credit reports contain identifying information, trade lines, credit inquiries and public record and collections information. Your credit report will often have discrepancies between Equifax, Experian and Transunion, and you have the right to correct any innacurate or incomplete information.

I checked my credit report and there was a debt

The CMI Group, Inc. Consolidated Recovery Group Debt Verification

Right to dispute debt notice not received

I checked my credit report and there was a debt collection account that showed up that appeared to be a debt that was well over 7 years old. I disputed it with the credit bureaus and it came back as " verified. '' Since I never received notification from this company, I sent them a debt validation letter and dispute letter to the address listed on my credit report. The letter was returned un-deliverable by USPS, it says the building is vacant. So the address listed on the credit report is 100 % inaccurate. How did the credit bureaus " verify '' this account if it's not possible to get hold of them via mail? This company is reporting debt that is over 7 years old, their contact information is not correct on my credit report, so it's impossible for me to reach them to deal with this matter. This is not legal.

This is an attempt to collect repeated overdraft

The CMI Group, Inc. Strategic Alliances Attempts to collect debt not owed

Debt is not mine

This is an attempt to collect repeated overdraft charges made to my account by XXXX for an unauthorized charge. The account was charged four times at {$35.00} each time and the remaining money in the account was taken and the " balance due '' was {$110.00}. At the time, I asked the bank to reverse these charges. They refused and sent it to collections almost immediately.

Threatened or suggested your credit would be damaged

The XXXX XXXX XXXX debt of {$470.00} is invalid. It should not be collected on my credit reports from the 3 credit reporting agencies ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) which destroy my credit. Contrary to its promise, XXXX XXXX XXXX devices ( for which I already paid $ 1000+ for them ) did not work with XXXX. I asked XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) to help solve the issue, but XXXX XXXX XXXX did not cooperate. XXXX XXXX XXXX provided wrong instruction for unlocking its devices. After I paid off the balance of my phones on XX/XX/2018, XXXX XXXX XXXX told me that the devices would be unlocked and then work for other carriers. I waited a few days and received an email of unlock instruction ( first email of unlock instruction, attached below ). I followed the instruction but without success. The instruction says max 5 tries are allowed before a phone becomes permanently locked to XXXX XXXX XXXX. I suffered a lot. I called XXXX XXXX XXXX customer care. I waited another few days and received another email of unlock instruction instruction ( second email of unlock instruction, attached below ) .which is completely different from the first unlock instruction. I followed it and seems like it was successful. However, when using the phones with XXXX, I never had mobile data connection. I had unlocked other XXXX XXXX XXXX phones in the past and they work well with other carriers -- but only one unlock instruction was received. Therefore, I believe that problems happened somewhere inside XXXX XXXX XXXX which caused my phones does not work with other carriers even if I paid them off. It is illegal for XXXX XXXX XXXX to sell defunct product. Either XXXX XXXX XXXX refunds the money I paid for the devices, or replaces them with functioning devices. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- first email of unlock instruction -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - From : XXXX XXXX XXXX Order Status XXXX Sent : Thursday, XX/XX/2018 XXXX XXXX To : XXXX Subject : We approved your unlock request Use these instructions to unlock your device.
